TikTok LIVE Fan Club configuration — badge, emoticons, Discord, reactivation

TikTok's Fan Club ships with default mechanics that work out of the box, but four configuration levers separate a generic club from one that feels owned: custom badge name, custom emoticons, Discord bridge, and the reactivation workflow for paused fans. This guide walks each in operational order, with the gotchas TikTok's help doc doesn't fully surface — the role-ordering trap in Discord, the 4-character badge limit, the approval delay on emoticons.

What can I customize on my TikTok LIVE Fan Club?

Four levers: (1) a 4-character badge name displayed next to your fans' usernames, (2) up to 15 custom emoticons exclusive to your Fan Club, (3) a Discord bridge that auto-adds fans to a private channel with a role, (4) the workflow to reactivate fans whose status got paused. Badge and emoticons require TikTok approval; Discord requires the TikTok bot to be at the top of your role list.

Step 1 — Set the badge name (4 chars max)

Open LIVE Center > Fan Club Zone > Identity > Badge name. Enter up to 4 characters. Per TikTok Support, the name must be approved before it appears next to your fans' usernames. Submit and wait for review. While in review the previous badge stays live. Once approved, every existing fan's badge text updates automatically — no member action needed.

Step 2 — Import custom emoticons (up to 15)

Open LIVE Center > Fan Club Zone > Emoticons. Upload up to 15 PNG/static-GIF images. Per TikTok Support, after approval your fans can send these custom emoticons plus all default emoticons in your LIVE chat. Common rejection reasons: low resolution, visible copyright marks, off-platform brand logos. Plan emoticon rollouts about a week before campaigns to absorb the approval latency.

Step 3 — Connect Discord (account + server + channel + role)

Per TikTok Support, before connecting Discord you must have: a Discord account, a Discord server, a private channel for your Fan Club, and a role you'd like to grant Fan Club members. Then go to LIVE Center > Fan Club > Discord, enable the Discord role, authorize it, and finalize the Discord settings. TikTok Terms of Service and Discord's privacy policy apply once connected — TikTok is not responsible for communications happening inside Discord.

Step 4 — Configure the TikTok bot role-ordering

This is the single biggest configuration gotcha. To let the TikTok bot add your fans to your Discord channel, the bot's role must be ranked above the role being assigned. Open Discord > Server Settings > Roles, drag the TikTok bot to the top of the role list, save. Without this, the auto-add silently fails for every fan join — and TikTok's Fan Club panel gives no error message.

Step 5 — Reactivate paused fans (1-coin Heart flow)

Per TikTok Support, fans whose status got paused can reactivate by spending 1 Coin to send a Heart-for-you in any of your LIVEs. Make this path explicit in your Fan Club chat broadcast: "if your badge went grey, one Heart in tonight's LIVE brings it back, you keep your tier." Most blocked fans don't know this exists — naming the path measurably increases recovery rates.

Common configuration mistakes

  • Submitting a 5+ character badge name — TikTok hard-rejects anything over 4 characters.
  • Uploading emoticons with screenshots from copyrighted media — instant rejection.
  • Connecting Discord without first creating the private channel — the dropdown won't show eligible channels.
  • Forgetting to drag the TikTok bot above the assigned role — the auto-add silently fails.
  • Not communicating the 1-coin reactivation path to paused fans — they assume they're permanently gone.

Frequently asked questions

  • Almost always role hierarchy. Discord's rule: a bot can only assign roles below its own in the server's role list. Open Discord > Server Settings > Roles, drag the TikTok bot to the top of the list, save. Re-test with a fresh fan join. TikTok's Fan Club panel doesn't surface this error, so the silent failure is the giveaway.
